September Sew Swap Linky Party

Oh, I am so excited for this post! I cannot wait to see all the link ups!

Sew Swap

Last month I hosted a Sew Swap and had such a blast with it. It was the first Swap I had ever hosted and participated in and once I started I just couldn’t stop. I signed up for two more swaps last month too! A Pen Pal Swap and a Toddler Busy Bag Swap. So much fun! We had 50 people participate and among those 50 were two kiddos and one guy! Awesome! Such a great turn out.

I was assigned to sew for Mary Kate of The Bubby Files. I sent her a cute little felt owl plushie made from serger scraps, a little letter needle book, and four fabric scraps. The needle book was hard to giveaway because I used some of my favorite fabrics!

I sure hope Mary Kate enjoyed her items!

The person sewing for me sent me some amazing items! The purse is fantastic and I love me some chevron fabric. Not to mention having in possession teal bias tape. So awesome!

Amazing, right?

I had sew much fun organizing this, sewing my items, and seeing all the #sewswap items up on Instagram so far.

All through out the month I kept checking up on Instagram under #sewswap and kept getting excited at all the posts!

Here are some photos shared with me from ladies who don’t have a blog, but still wanted to show what they received..

Mary sent over some photos of a tote and two bookmarks that she sewed for Jennet as well as what she received from Crystal

Jennifer B sent over what she received from Elizabeth

And Holly sent over a photo of a lovely floral credit card holder from Mariah at BraggAboutCreations

Thanks for the photos ladies!

If you participated in the Sew Swap and have blogged about the fun, link up! I can’t wait to see what everyone sent and received!

Pen Pal Swap

Earlier in the month I had participated in a Pen Pal Swap hosted by Aimee, Kristin, and Nicole. A good ol’ sit down and handwrite a letter to your pen pal and include a few fun things as well. I was paired up with Alys from Beautiful Imperfections.

When I was in the 5th grade I had a pen pal from Denmark through our school. Her name was Sara and she was the same age as me; we even looked the same! I remember us exchanging handwritten letters, photos of our family and town we lived in. I even remember us taking a picture of our rooms and arranging them the same way! After 5th grade we stayed in touch for a few years and then high school just kind of got in the way of things and we stopped writing. Then technology came and we got a computer and no one hand wrote a note anymore unless it was a ‘note from home’ excusing me out of school for some ‘appointment’.

I love the convenience on the internet, how fast you can get something typed up and sent out to someone, but nothing comes from the heart more than a hand written note or letter, which made me want to jump in on this swap right away.

My pen pal and I immediately got in contact with each other to find out our likes, colors, etc. and we had a lot in common! We are both nursing infants so no caffeine for us, we both hand {knit or crochet}, sew, love tea and coffee {decaf, of course} and lead very busy, yet fulfilled lives. I immediately went shopping for her and made a couple of handmade items and popped them in the mail –  two days late! Then I find out, so did she! We have both been on the same page from the get go, haha.

I couldn’t wait to get my snail mail and I was excited for her to get hers. I opened up the package and just laughed – we both had made coffee/tea cozies! And both sent coffee/tea related items. My pen pal is so cool. And I LOVE what she made me!

I got an email from her after she received her package and she was happy with what I sent her! Yay!

Today I am going to sit down and hand write out a letter answering all of her questions and comment on what she sent/wrote me so we can get to know each other a little better.

Thanks ladies for hosting this! I had a lot of fun and it was a great break from the Sew Swap I am hosting this month! And thank you Alys, for being my Pen Pal!

Sewn Projects | Week Two

1. Bry and I did the d.i.y. chalk so I made her a cute little drawstring bag to hold the chalk in

2. Crinkle tag toy for Oliver. Its amazing what you can do with an empty wipes bag! He loves that loud crinkle sound.

3. Felt elephant squeak toy for Oliver. Our doggie Zooey lovingly ripped apart one of her squeak chew toys so I reused the squeaky for the baby.

4. I took a skirt in that was two sizes too big by simply serging both side seams in.

5.We went yard sale hopping last weekend and I found these cool canvas calendars. One from 1970 and one from 1971! So I turned them into totes for Etsy!

6. A long awaited pocket diaper 100% sewn by me! Just need to add snaps and run it through the wash and its good to go.

7. A cute little zipper bag made from Echino Cars in blue. Was going to be for our pocket camera, but I sewed it too small so I’ll have to find something else to put in it. Plus, for whatever reason, it’s a little poorly constructed. I’m going to have to go back and redo some seams. Blah.

8. A little early, but since Im having the sewing party tomorrow I thought I would sew one extra thing today so I can focus on sewing at the party tomorrow. Im currently doing a toddler activity bag swap where 14 of us mamas make 14 of the same activity bags {we each have a different activity} and then swap! So we each leave with 14 different activities! Im making a color matching activity using paint color samples and clothes pins. Instead of using a zip loc to store the activity in {since Im making 14}, I thought I would get some felt pieces from the dollar store and serge up some little bags to keep the activity in. I also added a snap to the top to secure them. I cant wait to finish these and do the swap!

I am also excited about tomorrow’s sewing party and sending out everyone’s assignment for the Sew Swap on Sunday. Can’t wait to get started on my little goodies! Plus, tomorrow I am mailing out some goodies for my new Pen Pal for a Pen Pal Swap I am participating in! YAY!

Sew Swap!

Thank you everyone for participating, signups are now closed. If you signed up and confirmed your address you will receive your assignments on Sunday the 16th. Be sure to fill out the questionaire before then so the person sewing for you can get to know you better!

Ashley Marie.

You’ve heard of {and maybe participated in} a mug swap, right? Well this is the same concept, but with a handmade {by you} sewn item!!

The swap is all about creating a little {or big!} handmade, sewn item and sending it off to another sewer, receiving an item yourself. This is such a great way to build friendships in the blogging world and receive a sweet gift at the same time!

If you would like to participate, here are the steps:

Step one: Email me {} and let me know you want in. I’ll sign you up and contact you for a mailing address. Signups close Sunday, September 9th.
Step two: Spread the word. If you know someone who might be interested, forward them to me so I can sign them up. The more, the merrier!
Step three: On Sunday, September 16th, I will email you with your assignment.
Step four: On or before SundaySeptember 23rd, please have your little creation finished and dropped in the mail for your recipient. This means that your creation should be mailed no later than the 23rd.
Step five: Receive and document your gift. Blog, Instagram, Tweet your Sew Swapping Adventure. Be sure and use #sewswap on Instagram & Twitter so other Swappers can find you!

Step six: Link up! I will be hosting a Linky Party on October 8th for those of you who are bloggers and want to link up your posts! (This gives you plenty of time to make sure your gift arrives & talk about your adventure!)

I would love to have you all participate!

The mug swap on some blogs offer FAQs so I’ll do the same for the sew swap:

1. Do I have to have a blog to participate?

But you do need a sewing machine!
2. Do I have to spend a ton of $?

You could probably make something out of the pile of scraps you have lying around!

3. Does it have to be big?

You can make something teeny tiny if you’d like.

 4. Am I sending to and receiving from the same person?

I guess technically you aren’t “swapping”, more like a daisy chain of handmade items flying through the skies via USPS. You will

send to one person and receive from someone else. This way you get to know at least two people!

 5. Is it a secret?

I will only be telling you who you send to. And you will find out who sent to you! But thats it. No other information is shared.

6. What should I make?

Whatever you’d like.

You can create something technical or simple; whatever you can in the time that you have.

7. I never got my assignment.

When you email me signing up – I WILL reply confirming you are IN.

(And asking for your mailing address).

If you did NOT hear back from me, it means I did NOT get your email.

Make sure you follow up.

I don’t want anyone to miss out!

Here is the logo for the swap

I will email you the button to put on your blog when you sign up.

*Open to US Residents Only! Sorry!*

So excited! Lets get our swap on!
